This webinar is conducted in celebration of the 1st World Day of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine in collaboration with the European Society of Regional Anesthesia. The webinar will include four talks relevant to most practicing anesthesiologists including Spinal anesthesia drugs and recipes, regional anesthesia techniques for Shoulder Surgery, Trauma and Paediatric Anaesthesia.   
 
This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society. You may claim a maximum of 1.5 hour (credits are automatically calculated). 

After participating in this activity, participants will be able to: 

1. Describe the optimal dose and type of local anesthetic for spinal for different surgical procedures. 

2. Choose an effective regional anesthesia technique for different shoulder surgeries and a patient with trauma pain. 

3. List common regional anesthesia techniques used in the pediatric population with specific consideration for this population.



Moderator: Dr Vishal Uppal, CAS Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Section Chair
 

Dr Uppal is an Associate Professor and Director of the Regional Anesthesia fellowship program at Dalhousie University, Halifax. He is also the current chair of the CAS Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain section. His clinical experience and content expertise are in Regional Anesthesia, Acute Pain, Obstetric Anesthesia, and Evidence Synthesis. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. Currently, he serves as an associate editor of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia and Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Journals. 

Presenter: Patrick Wong, University of Ottawa 

After completing his regional anesthesia fellowship training at the Toronto Western Hospital in 2012, Dr Wong joined the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He has been the lead for the regional anesthesia program at The Ottawa Hospital, General Campus since 2014. He was the Chair of the CAS Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain section from 2020 to 2022. 
 


Presenter: Dr Kwesi Kwofie, Dalhousie University

After his anesthesiology Residency, Dr Kwofie completed a fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine at NYSORA. He is currently an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Director of Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He is the past chair of the CAS Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Section and the current Associate Editor for Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia for ASRA News. He has published many peer-reviewed articles and given over 100 lectures and workshops all over the world.


Presenter: Dr Vivian Ip, University of Calgary

Dr. Vivian Ip is a Clinical Professor at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. She is a practicing Anesthesiologist with fellowship training in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, as well as Ambulatory Anesthesia. At the CAS, she is the Vice Chair of the Regional Anesthesia Section, and the Chair of the Environmental Sustainability Section. She is also an Editorial member of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia. At the WFSA, she sits on the Sustainability Committee. At the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA PM), she is the Editor of ASRA PM News and the Chair of the Green Anesthesia Special Interests Group.
 

Presenter: Dr Ushma Shah, Western University, St Joseph Healthcare, London 

Dr Shah completed her Anesthesiology training in India in 2010. She completed her FRCA (UK) in 2013. She completed her fellowship in Perioperative Medicine (Toronto, 2015) and Pediatric Anesthesia (Toronto, 2016). She has been an Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology at Western University since 2017. She practices both adult and pediatric regional anesthesia, and regularly teaches residents and fellows. She is the program director for Pediatric Anesthesia Fellowship Program at Western University. She has taught at many UGRA workshops in the past and has authored first MCQ book for EDRA exam.
