CAS is governed by a 22-member Board of Directors, chaired by an elected President. An elected Executive Committee, including a Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Past President, is also chaired by the President. The Executive Committee possesses and may exercise all of the powers of the Board as legally delegated. The CAS Executive Director participates in and contributes to all Board and Executive Committee meetings.

The Board of Directors represents the breadth of our country with all provinces having a seat at the table. The provincial groups are known as Divisions, and the CAS members of a province are members of the Division.  Divisions may have their own Executive Committee and are expected to represent their members interests to the Board. Completing the voting members of the Board are a Resident Member of the Society, elected by the Resident Section, and an Association of Canadian University Departments of Anesthesia (ACUDA) representative.

Special invitees to the Board, who participate in discussion and debate but are non-voting representatives, are the Editor of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia (CJA), the Chairs of the Canadian Anesthesia Research Foundation (CARF) and Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Fund (CASIEF), and a representative of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The work of CAS is supported by the fundraising of two foundations – the Canadian Anesthesia Research Foundation (CARF), and the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation (CASIEF).
