The CAS Honour Awards program celebrates the diverse representation of anesthesiologists across Canada and their achievements. We are proud to recognize outstanding contributions to the field of anesthesia by awarding the following distinctions.
GOLD MEDAL
The Gold Medal is the highest award of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society. It is an inscribed medal given in recognition of excellence in a career in service to anesthesiology.
ELIGIBILITY
The Gold Medal may be awarded to an Active or Retired CAS member (ordinarily a Canadian), who has made a significant contribution to anesthesia in Canada through teaching, research, professional practice, or administration and leadership.
CLINICAL PRACTITIONER AWARD
Given in recognition of excellence in clinical anesthesia practice.
ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to an Active member of CAS who has made a significant contribution to the practice of clinical anesthesia in Canada.
CLINICAL TEACHER AWARD
Given in recognition of excellence in the teaching of clinical anesthesia.
ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to an Active member of CAS who has made a significant contribution to the teaching of anesthesia in Canada.
EMERITUS MEMBERSHIP AWARD
Recognizes individuals retired from clinical practice who made a significant contribution to anesthesia during their careers.
ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to a current member of CAS in any category who has been a member of the Society for 25 years or more and has retired from clinical practice.
CAS Humanitarian Award
Given in recognition of excellence in global anesthesiology.
ELIGIBILITY
This will be awarded to an Active or Retired CAS member (ordinarily a Canadian), who has made a significant contribution to anesthesia beyond the bounds of routine practice, exemplifying altruism, integrity, and perseverance to improve equitable access to safe anesthesia care through advocacy, practice, or education.
JOHN BRADLEY YOUNG EDUCATOR AWARD
Given in recognition of excellence and effectiveness in education in anesthesia.
ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to an Active member of CAS in the first ten years of practice who has made significant contributions to the education of students and residents in anesthesia in Canada.
CAS OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER AWARD
This award is given in recognition of excellence in supporting CAS through volunteering and is awarded to a CAS member who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the Society and has helped improve its image as a volunteer.
RESEARCH RECOGNITION AWARD
This award is administered at the same time as CAS Honour Awards but is judged by the Research Advisory Committee. It is presented by the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society to honour a senior investigator who has made major contributions to anesthesia research in Canada.
