The 2025 Research Program is open. The deadline to submit your application is January 10, 2025.

Awards

The 2025 Research Program offers several types of Operating Grants:

  1. New Investigator Operating Grants
  2. Open Operating Grants, with the following subtypes:
    1. Section Grants
    2. Subspecialty Grants
  3. Residents’ Research Grant: “Ontario's Anesthesiologists – CAS Residents' Research Grant”

All applicants must hold a primary faculty appointment in a department of anesthesia at a Canadian university medical school; in the case of the “Residents’ Research Grant”, the applicant’s supervisor must hold the appointment.

Regardless of the award, the grant is payable to the recipient’s hospital or research institute up to the maximum amount listed below. It is for a two-year term, dispersed in two equal installments from the Canadian Anesthesia Research Foundation (CARF).

Kindly note that:

  1. An applicant may be awarded only one grant per awards cycle.
  2. An individual eligible for a New Investigator Operating Grant, a Section Operating Grant and a Subspecialty Operating Grant must decide which they will submit to and can only apply for one of these awards.
  3. All applicants under the New Investigator Operating Grants, Section Operating Grants and Subspecialty Operating Grants are also considered for an Open Award if they do not win in their category. That is, once the New Investigator, Section and Subspecialty Operating Grants have been awarded, the RAC will automatically include the remaining grants from those competitions in the Open category.
  4. All applicants under the Open Operating Grants can be considered for a Section or Subspecialty Grant if they have not been awarded the Open Grant, they meet the specific grant criteria, and the Section/Subspecialty Grant has not been awarded (there are no specific applications, or the applications do not meet a minimum standard of scientific merits, importance, and feasibility).

Please review all relevant Guidelines & Conditions and required statements before applying for any of the awards below.
