2023: Dr Ki Jinn Chin
Dr Ki Jinn Chin is a clinician-scientist and professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Toronto, and his academic productivity, research, technical achievements, knowledge translation and dissemination have moved the practice of anesthesia forward on a global level.
2022: Dr Andre Denault
Dr Denault’s exceptional academic achievements encompass both his outstanding research ability in
echocardiography - and more recently in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) - and his extraordinary capabilities in teaching the management of the unstable patient. He is the lead author of two seminal textbooks on transesophageal echocardiography: “Transesophageal Echocardiography Multimedia Manual: A Perioperative Transdisciplinary Approach” (3rd edition currently in preparation) and “Basic Transesophageal and Critical Care Ultrasound”, making him an international leader in the field of transesophageal echocardiography. Thanks to his visionary work and discoveries, his research findings will have a lasting impact on our specialty.

Dr Duminda Wijeysundera has established himself as a world-renowned clinician-scientist who has had an enormous impact on the field both in Canada and across the globe. Dr Wijeysundera has published over 230 peer reviewed scientific publications in the highest impact factor journals, and has given over one hundred invited lectures across Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia

2006: Dr Beverley Orser
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to the knowledge base of the specialty through research into molecular and cellular mechanisms of anesthetic action, and her work in preventing medication-related adverse events and enhancing patient safety.
2005: Dr Howard Nathan
University of Ottawa Anesthesia Department Head Dr Homer Yang presented this year's Research Recognition Award to winner Dr Howard Nathan, also from Ottawa. The award had been bestowed in recognition of Dr Nathan's sustained and outstanding contributions as a career scientist to basic and clinical research in the field of cardiac anesthesia. This researcher's remarkable career covered work that ranged from myocardial ischemia and the role of anesthetic agents to neurological injury after cardiac surgery. For the former research, Dr Nathan achieved both national and international recognition within the anesthesia research community.
2004: Dr François Donati
Dr François Donati from Montreal accepted the Society's Research Recognition Award with much gratitude. His sustained major contributions to anesthesia research in Canada, which have advanced the scientific and clinical practice of anesthesia nationally and internationally, were recognized by Dr Miller. Dr Donati's innovative and insightful research on pharmacology of neuromuscular drugs, physiology of neuromuscular monitoring and reversal of neuromuscular blockage were acknowledged. His patience, kindness and unselfish nature towards his students and colleagues were recognized, as was his excellence in patient care and his outstanding ability to balance clinical anesthesia responsibilities, with research, education, mentoring and family.
2003: Dr Ian R Thomson
Dr Ian Thomson from Winnipeg was this year's recipient of the CAS Research Recognition Award presented in recognition of his sustained and outstanding contributions to research in the fields of cardiovascular anesthesia, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Most appropriately, Dr Earl Wynands presented the award to Dr Thomson to a standing ovation.
2002: Dr Jerrold Lerman
Dr Jerrold Lerman, formerly from Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children and now working in Buffalo, New York, is this year's recipient of the CAS Research Recognition Award. Dr Don Miller presented the award, noting that it was made in recognition of Dr Lerman's sustained and outstanding contributions to research, in the fields of pediatric anesthesia and clinical pharmacology.
2001: Dr Mary Morris
The CAS Research Recognition Award was presented to Dr Mary Morris, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to research and teaching in the fields of neurophysiology and pharmacology.
2000: Dr Adrian Gelb
The CAS Research Recognition Award was presented to Dr Adrian Gelb, whose family witnessed the ceremony with obvious pride. A presentation by Dr Douglas Craig described Dr Gelb's pursuit of excellence in the integration of basic sciences and neuroanesthesia to enhance the knowledge base of the specialty.

Congratulations to Dr Alison Froese from Kingston, Ontario, who accepted the CAS Research Recognition Award after an introduction by Dr Peter Duncan summarizing the outstanding contributions made by this important Canadian researcher.
